Egypt’s Informal Settlement Development Fund (ISDF) is planning to develop 83 slums distributed in 18 governorates during the fiscal year 2015/2016, Souad Nageeb – ISDF Project Officer in Greater Cairo and Upper Egypt said Tuesday.
The slums development would cost total amount of 4 billion Egyptian pounds (US$ 127 million). In addition, the priority will be given to the second-degree life-endangering shantytowns.
President al- sisi‘s Tahya Misr fund is responsible for developing the first-degree life-endangering shantytowns while ISDF is dedicated to developing the governorates’ sprawling informal settlements, noted Nageeb.
On the other hand, Cairo captures 30 percent of the total number of shanty-towns spread all over Egypt.
Furthermore, Naguib told amwal al ghad that developing el–Samakeen area in Sohag is considered to be one of the most prominent projects carried out during the current fiscal year as part of the national plan for developing life-endangering slums.
