Egypt seeks to launch 1,000 additional smart homes in new capital
Egypt studies launching additional 1,000 housing units provided with the so-called smart homes systems in the new administrative capital late this year, said an assistant to minister of housing on Saturday.
Smart home refers to a house in which a number of interconnected devices and home appliances are performing certain actions to save money and time.
These housing units will vary between villas and town houses, Deputy Housing Minister for National Projects Khaled Abbas told DMC TV Channel.
“We have completed so far 50 percent of the furnishing works on these smart homes.” Abbas said.
The Egyptian government’s New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) had sold 2,400 smart homes in the new capital, he said.
Located 40km (29 miles) east of Cairo, the anticipated new capital city is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the country’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure.
The city will feature 1,250 mosques and churches, a 5,000-seat conference center, nearly 2,000 schools and colleges, over 600 medical facilities and a park that is projected to be the world’s largest.
