Abu Dhabi, Siemens Energy partners for industrial decarbonisation
Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), represented by the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), and the global leader Siemens Energy signed an agreement on Monday to decarbonise Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector.
The partnership aims to position Abu Dhabi as the region’s top industrial centre, drive the Green Falcon Economy, and set a global standard for tackling climate change and fostering industrial sustainability.
Under the agreement, Siemens Energy will support IDB in establishing local manufacturing capabilities in Abu Dhabi and offering tech solutions to boost the growth and spread of carbon removal technology in the emirate’s industrial sector.
Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, the Undersecretary of ADDED, and Karim Amin, an Executive Board Member at Siemens Energy, were present at the signing ceremony.
ADDED will streamline the acquisition of industrial licences and incentives for Abu Dhabi businesses, thereby easing their entry into the industrial sector and enabling them to seize various opportunities.
Furthermore, it will actively promote decarbonisation technologies, identify and evaluate the best sites for their use, and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. This will enhance Abu Dhabi’s sustainability and economic growth.
Siemens Energy will support research and development efforts for innovative technologies such as waste heat recovery, electrification solutions, grid technology, and energy storage.
Additionally, it will hold workshops to share knowledge and train industrial firms in the emirate on decarbonisation technologies to boost awareness and facilitate smooth implementation.
“This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to sustainable development and underscores how Abu Dhabi is leading the way in adopting global innovative solutions for a low-carbon future.” stated Arafat Al Yafei, Executive Director of the IDB.
He added, “It will support the growth of Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector and ensure we become a truly green Falcon economy.” Al Yafei also emphasised that Abu Dhabi is rapidly becoming a top choice for talent, investment, and business.
He also explained that this strategic alliance will bolster Abu Dhabi’s status as a global leader in advanced technologies and sustainable industries, with a guarantee of a diverse, intelligent, sustainable economy and a focus on human development.
Khalid Bin Hadi, Managing Director of the UAE at Siemens Energy, commented: “As a long-term strategic partner to the UAE, we are dedicated to supporting the development of a flourishing, sustainable industrial sector in Abu Dhabi.”
“With a legacy stretching back over 40 years in the country, Siemens Energy is playing a key role in the nation’s energy transformation by prioritising efficiency, decarbonisation, and digitalization with innovative partnership ventures.” He further added.
Abu Dhabi’s move towards a greener, more sustainable economy is part of the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy (ADIS), under the leadership of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), which aims to utilise the newest green technologies to solidify Abu Dhabi’s role as the Green Falcon Economy, speed up the emirate’s transition into the region’s top industrial centre, and reduce its environmental impact.
