ADB approves $100m loan for Lanka’s water reforms
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $100 million loan to support Sri Lanka’s water supply and sanitation reforms aimed at enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainability.
The Water Supply and Sanitation Reform Programme, comprising two $100 million subprogrammes, will strengthen the country’s water services.
Subprogramme 1 will focus on establishing national policies and strategies, while Subprogramme 2 will support the implementation of these reforms.
The initiative seeks to address issues such as fragmented water management and governance challenges, aiming to improve access to safe water and encourage private sector involvement. An additional $800,000 in technical assistance grants will aid in capacity building and monitoring.
