ADB approves $21m grant for Tajikistan hydropower upgrade
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on Tuesday that it has approved an additional grant of $21 million to enhance renewable energy supply in Tajikistan by further modernising the Golovnaya hydropower plant.
This financing will be used to replace Unit 4, which stopped operating in 2019 due to mechanical damage. Originally, the ADB had provided a $136 million grant in 2013 to upgrade five of the plant’s six power generation units.
With this modernisation, the plant’s installed capacity is expected to increase from 240 megawatts in 2012 to 274 megawatts by 2026.
