The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved up to $288 million in financing to support Nepal’s climate resilience and sustainable water infrastructure.
The funds will go towards two projects focused on green development and securing water supply in the Kathmandu Valley, benefiting at least 2 million residents by 2030.
Through a $100 million policy-based loan for the Green, Resilient, and Inclusive Development (GRID) Programme, ADB aims to support policies for sustainable water management, disaster preparedness, and alternative energy.
The Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Improvement Project will receive a $170 million concessional loan and an $18 million grant to construct climate-resilient water infrastructure, increase water treatment capacity, and establish digital systems for monitoring.
