Afghanistan signs $163m deal for cement plant

The Afghan caretaker government’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has signed a $163 million contract for the construction of a cement plant in Jawzjan province.

The 30-year contract is expected to create 1,200 jobs for local residents and produce 3,000 tons of cement daily.

Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, acting minister of mines and petroleum, stated that the government aims to achieve self-sufficiency in cement production.

The ministry has recently signed several contracts totalling $476 million with domestic and international companies in Parwan, Kandahar, and Herat provinces.

Since assuming power in August 2021, the Afghan caretaker government has been actively working to rebuild destroyed cement plants and establish new factories across the war-torn country.
