Amazon, Google, and other major companies signed a pledge on Wednesday to support the goal of tripling the world’s nuclear energy capacity by 2050.
The commitment was made on the sidelines of the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston.
Shale producer Occidental and Japanese heavy machinery firm IHI Corp also joined the pledge, which is expected to gain further industry support from maritime, aviation, and oil and gas sectors, according to the World Nuclear Association (WNA).
The initiative builds on a 2023 commitment by over 30 countries to expand nuclear capacity.
Nuclear power currently generates 9 per cent of global electricity from 439 reactors, though as of early 2025, only 411 reactors with a combined 371-gigawatt capacity remain operational, WNA said.
