Angelina Jolie reveals new participatory fashion venture

American actress and filmmaker, Angelina Jolie has announced on Wednesday the launching of a new fashion enterprise where customers can collaborate with tailors on creating their own pieces, as it is set to launch at Fall 2023.

Jolie said she started the Atelier to be “a place to have fun. To create your own designs with freedom. To discover yourself.” She also referred to the project’s idea stemming from her “appreciation and deep respect for the many tailors and makers I’ve worked with over the years.”

The renowned actress expressed her hopes collaborating with global artisans will spread “the richness of their cultural heritage.” Jolie also referred to the fact tailors “who make the difference… rarely receive the credit and respect they deserve.”

The former special envoy for UNHCR announced on Instagram starting Atelier Jolie, where “everyone can create.” She said the new enterprise “will bring together… apprenticeships for refugees and other talented, underappreciated groups, with positions of dignity based on skill.”

Atelier Jolie will only depend on “leftover, quality vintage material and deadstock” and will allow repairing and upcycling pieces. Encouraging sustainability, the Atelier will enable “breathing new life” into old garments, and “creating quality heirloom garments with personal meaning.”
