Apple’s Mac shipments fall by more than 40%

Apple’s worldwide Mac shipments fell by 40.5 percent year over year in the first quarter of 2023 according to research firm IDC on Monday. The fall came amid a broad contraction in consumer demand.

The five major computer makers, Apple, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and HP witnessed a huge drop in first quarter shipments, however, Apple’s decline was the biggest.

According to IDC, Apple’s worldwide PC market share dropped from 8.6 percent to 7.2 percent, between the first quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

Apple Chief Financial Officer, Luca Maestri, said in February that Apple expected declines in Mac and iPad sales for the March quarter.

During the December quarter, Mac revenues fell by 28.66 percent. Apple shares closed down on Monday by over 1.5 percent.

The IDC report said that PC manufacturers will suffer in the near future, with expectations that the growth will pick up by the end of the year.
