Asian stocks rise as wall street rebounds on tariff relief

Asian stocks mostly rose on Thursday, tracking Wall Street’s rebound after President Donald Trump eased some tariff hikes.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index rose by 0.8 per cent to 37,704.93. Japanese automakers recorded a boost in US trading, with Honda Motor Corp. gaining 2 per cent and Nissan Motor Co. rising by 1.1 per cent.

Toyota Motor Corp.’s shares, however, fell by 1 per cent in Tokyo trading. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surged 3.3 per cent to 24,362.68 after Chinese government reports at the annual legislative session had signaled a stronger commitment.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose by 1.2 per cent to 3,381.10. South Korea’s Kospi increased by 0.7 per cent to 2,576.16, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.6 per cent to 8,094.70. Taiwan’s Taiex dropped 0.7 per cent, and Bangkok’s SET declined 0.6 per cent.
