BP begins production at Egypt’s West Nile Delta fields next Dec. – minister
BP will begin production at two of its gas fields in Egypt as part of its West Nile Delta project next December, Egyptian oil minister Tarek el-Molla said on Tuesday.
Minister el-Molla made his remarks following his meeting with executives of international oil firms on the sidelines of the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi.
The fields, Fayoum and Giza, will initially yield around 400 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Production would increase to 700 million cubic feet per day later next year, a ministry statement said last October.
BP started gas production from two other fields in its West Nile Delta development last year.
Egypt has been seeking to speed up production from recently discovered fields, with an eye to halting imports by 2019 and achieving self-sufficiency.
