BYD, the China-based vehicle manufacturer, said on Thursday it plans to expand its business in Egypt, denying reports of its exit from the Egyptian market.
Yeung Jing, the marketing manager in Africa and Middle East at BYD, told local press that BYD is set to start car manufacturing in Egypt by the end of the year or by the beginning of 2024.
BYD is also going to establish around three showrooms, including one in the New Administrative Capital (NAC), he added.
Another official from the company said that BYD stopped manufacturing cars that use diesel since 2022.
This came as part of the company’s new path to protect and preserve the environment by using electric cars and trains.
An official said that exporting electric cars to Egypt will depend on the market demand.
In February 1995, BYD was founded in China and is working in the fields of electronics, automobiles, new energy, and rail transit.
