Cairo Chamber of Commerce Supports Free Trade Zone With Gaza

Cairo Chamber of Commerce has announced supporting proposals for establishing a free trade zone along the borders with Gaza. The Chamber has welcomed the free trade zone project for the purpose of boosting the trade along Egypt’s eastern borders.

Ali Shoukri, Deputy Chairman of Cairo Chamber of Commerce, said having a free logistic area alongside trade exchange are still not enough to ease the current tension mounted in Egypt’s borders with Gaza.

To seal off the tunnels into the Gaza Strip is formidable due to the fact that there are a lot of untraceable tunnels in that area, Shoukri noted.

“Instead, we should make the best use of the country’s border with Gaza as well as establish a free trade zone.” He added.

Shoukri has declared that the proposals for having free trade zones along the country’s borders have been submitted to the former Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Mahmoud Eissa. The minister had welcome the idea making it come into effect on Egypt’s borders with the Sudan.

“President Mohamed Morsi had expressed his keenness on opening a land route between Egypt and the Sudan.”

“If we manage to make joint projects with the Sudan, Egypt will become self-sufficient in all the livestock resources and in agricultural crops.”
