China sends first equipment shipment to Egypt for climate cooperation ahead of COP27

China dispatched its first shipment of equipment to Egypt in order to contribute in transforming Sharm El Sheikh into a green city and to enhance energy efficiency ahead of COP27.

The announcement came during a virtual ceremony in July 27attended by Ali Abu Sunna; Executive Director of the Environmental Affairs Agency, on behalf of Yasmine Fouad; Minister of Environment, Zhao Yingmin; Deputy Minister of Environment of China.

Chinese Ministry of Environment has submitted the batch to the Egyptian Ministry of Environment to counter the effects of climate change.

Ali Abu Sunna the head of the Environmental Affairs Agency of the Ministry of Environment, said that these goods considered as one of the basic technological solutions, which ensure the use of sustainable and renewable energy resources.

These goods contribute to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy consumption, thus preserving Egypt’s natural resources, Abu Sunna added.

He noted that these goods include solar street lighting poles, solar home systems, energy-saving bulbs, tubes, and air conditioners, in order to contribute to fulfilling the international obligations.

Moreover, China’s help will reduce the cost of Egypt’s climate adaptation measures as the country implements its national strategies on climate change, Hossam Muharram a former adviser to the Egyptian minister of environment, said.

It came within the South-South Assistance Program and cooperation between the two countries in environmental work field, especially climate issues.
