EBRD issues 1st sustainability loan in Mongolia

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided its first sustainability-linked loan in Mongolia, amounting to up to $51.7 million (€47.7 million), to MCS Coca-Cola.

This loan aims to address industrial and environmental challenges by funding the installation of a modern aseptic bottling line, renovation of water bottling equipment, and expansion of green investments.

MCS Coca-Cola will use the funds to acquire electric forklifts, construct an energy-efficient garage, install rooftop solar panels, and expand its fleet of distribution E-trucks.

Supported by the EBRD’s Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) and the Japan-EBRD Cooperation Fund, the project will enhance the company’s sustainability practices.

MCS Coca-Cola plans to make at least 51 per cent of its plastic packaging from recycled PET and achieve a 100 per cent plastic waste collection rate by 2030.

To date, the EBRD has invested €2.41 billion in Mongolia through 147 projects, with nearly 90 per cent of these funds supporting private-sector companies.
