Egypt approves methane reduction roadmap in oil sector

The Egyptian Cabinet approved an agreement to develop a roadmap for reducing methane emissions between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

The initiative will evaluate current methane levels in the petroleum sector, establish reduction targets, and prioritise two key emission-reduction projects.

This effort aligns with Egypt’s commitment to the Global Methane Pledge, announced by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as part of global efforts to combat climate change. The plan also includes proposing internal legislation to curb emissions in the oil and gas sectors.
