The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced on Monday that Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) for vaccines reached Maturity Level 3 (ML-3), which will eventually allow Egypt to export COVID-19 vaccines to other countries.
EDA becomes the first to reach ML-3 for vaccine regulation in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the ninth globally, the statement read.
This progress offers the Egyptian vaccine manufacturers the eligibility to apply for WHO pre-qualification and WHO Emergency Use Listing of their manufactured products.
Pre-qualification program is to ensure that medicine meets acceptable standards of quality, safety, and efficacy, while the emergency use listing helps assess the suitability of novel health products during public health emergencies.
Level three confirms a stable, well-functioning, and integrated regulatory system.
Egypt is among the region’s main producers of medical and pharmaceutical products, including vaccines.
