Egypt declares 13 April paid holiday for private sector for Sham El-Nessim

Egypt’s Ministry of Labour announced that Monday, 13 April 2026, will be a paid official holiday for private sector employees under Labour Law No. 14 of 2025, in celebration of Sham El-Nessim.

The ministry issued a circular to all labour directorates, noting that employers may require employees to work on the day if necessary. In such cases, employees are entitled to double pay or an alternative day off upon submitting a written request. The ministry urged officials to publicise the circular’s provisions at workplaces and ensure their implementation.
