Egypt ensures energy sector readiness amid regional tensions

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly held a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the preparedness of the country’s energy sector amid recent military escalation in the region. The meeting focused on assessing the sector’s readiness and ensuring the effectiveness of proactive measures by the Ministry of Petroleum to secure domestic supplies of natural gas and petroleum products without disruption.

During the meeting, Minister Karim Badawi outlined the ministry’s proactive measures, including diversified supply sources through local production and alternative capacities, long-term agreements for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, and an integrated infrastructure for receiving LNG shipments. The ministry is also deploying gasification ships and supporting increased domestic production through timely payments to partners, boosting exploration and production activities.

Badawi confirmed full readiness to meet gas supply requirements for both citizens and production sectors, while maintaining safe strategic reserves of gasoline, diesel, LPG, and other petroleum products.

Madbouly stressed the critical importance of maintaining secure strategic reserves of petroleum products and providing the necessary financing to complete energy sector projects, emphasising that energy security is a cornerstone of national security.
