Egypt, EU Sign Combating Industrial Pollution Agreement

Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Naglaa Al-Ahwani signed with Ambassador of the European Union in Cairo James Moran, French Ambassador in Egypt and Head of Near East Division at European Investment Bank (EIB) Group Nathalie Climence the third phase of the umbrella agreement on combating industrial pollution project.

The total cost of the third phase reaches €150 million to which EIB will contribute €70 million, the French Agency for Development €59 million, the German Reconstruction Bank 15.5, the European Union €10 million and the Egyptian government € 4.4 million.

The first phase of the project was launched in 1997 and the second in 2007. Its aim is to improve the environmental conditions in the various Egyptian governorates and help industrial establishments conform to the environment regulations and laws to fight industrial pollution.
