Egypt and Wuhan FiberHome International Technologies Co. Ltd. recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance Egypt’s telecommunications infrastructure and create new jobs. Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed the signing ceremony while attending the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit in Beijing.
Under the MoU, a manufacturing plant will be established in Egypt, spanning 10,000 square metres, with an annual production capacity of 1 million fiber kilometres, 500,000 communication terminal units, and 3,000 base station antennas. These products will serve both the domestic market and be exported to the Middle East and North Africa.
In the first phase, the project is expected to create approximately 200 direct and indirect jobs in various fields. Additionally, FiberHome will establish a research and development centre in Egypt to focus on optical network technologies and green innovations.
The partnership will also see FiberHome establishing a research and development (R&D) centre in Egypt that will annually train 50 professional engineers and 500 technicians in mobile and fixed network fields.
This agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening Egypt’s information technology infrastructure and industrial capabilities. It is expected to promote job creation and position Egypt as a leading technological hub in the region.
