Egypt confirms safety of citizens in Venezuela after US strikes, capture of Maduro
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Saturday that Egyptians living in Venezuela are safe, as consular officials maintain round-the-clock contact with the embassy in Caracas to monitor conditions following recent US military strikes.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty instructed the ministry to ensure the well-being of the community and provide guidance on safety measures. Ambassador Haddad El-Gohary, assistant minister for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad, said no citizens have faced risks and emphasised the importance of following local laws and contacting the embassy hotline if needed.
The reassurance comes amid sharply escalated tensions in Venezuela after the US forces carried out large scale airstrikes across northern Venezuela, including in the capital, Caracas, and took President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, into custody, flying them out of the country.
The US military strikes have drawn global attention and controversy, with critics saying they violate international law and sovereignty. China has strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a serious violation of international law, and several other nations have voiced concern over the use of force in Venezuela.
The ministry said it will continue coordinating with the embassy to take any necessary steps to safeguard Egyptians in Venezuela.
