Egypt, Germany eye skilled labour deal to tap European job markets

Egypt and Germany are in talks to launch a vocational training partnership aimed at preparing Egyptian professionals for skilled jobs in Europe, as part of Cairo’s broader push to align with international labour standards.

Rasha Saad Sharaf, Secretary-General of Egypt’s Education Development Fund (EDF), met with Clemens Kohnen, an envoy from Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, to discuss cooperation under the International Licensing Academies Project, according to a Cabinet statement Thursday.

The programme seeks to train and certify Egyptian workers under global benchmarks, enabling them to meet rising demand in European labor markets. “The goal is to export qualified talent, not just labor,” Sharaf said, adding that the initiative supports Egypt’s Vision 2030 development strategy.

Kohnen called Egypt one of Germany’s top 10 partners in skilled labor migration, citing recent improvements in the country’s technical education and better alignment with European job market needs.
