Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity has begun disbursing 3.14 billion Egyptian pounds in cash handouts to households under the ‘Takaful and Karama’ programme, benefiting 4.7 million households this October. Minister Maya Morsy confirmed that the disbursement started Tuesday, with beneficiaries able to withdraw funds via ATMs.
All households on the initiative’s waiting list have been covered, with 175,000 new households added in recent months. The ministry is now reviewing households that are no longer eligible due to a change in status.
The total number of households receiving cash handouts reaches 5.2 million, covering 22 million citizens, with 4.7 million funded by the state budget and 500,000 by the National Alliance for Civil and Developmental Action.
