Egypt in Davos ’25: Mashat discusses energy projects with Hitachi

Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, held talks, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, with CEO of Hitachi Energy, Andreas Schierenbeck, to discuss the company’s energy projects in Egypt.

The meeting focused on Hitachi Energy’s role in the implementation of the Egypt-Saudi Arabia electrical interconnection project, part of Egypt’s efforts to secure energy supplies and promote regional integration.

Minister Al-Mashat highlighted the critical role of both local and foreign private sectors in advancing renewable energy projects. Discussions also addressed Egypt’s efforts to expand renewable energy initiatives in line with its Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, which aims to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to 42 per cent by 2035.

The meeting further explored NWFE Programme, which includes renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts, set to be implemented by 2028.
