Egypt inaugurates EGP 40m eco-friendly packaging factory
Egypt inaugurated on Sunday a new eco-friendly packaging factory at Military Factory 200, a facility under the Ministry of Military Production. This initiative, a collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Australia’s Papyrus company, aims to utilise banana plant waste to create sustainable food packaging products.
The factory, built with investments worth 40 million Egyptian pounds, involves a two-phase process. The first phase focused on establishing a facility in Sohag to convert waste into fibres. The second phase involved setting up an automated production line at Factory 200 to manufacture eco-friendly packaging.
The new factory has an annual capacity of 60 million units and is expected to replace 10,000 tons of plastic products. By recycling banana plant waste, the project promotes environmental sustainability and reduces the negative impact of plastic pollution. Additionally, it creates over 110 direct and indirect jobs.
The Ministry of Environment plans to launch an online platform to connect businesses and investors with eco-friendly investment opportunities, particularly those focused on plastic alternatives.
