Egypt, Italy sign green electric corridor MoU at COP28
The German Siemens Energy Group and the Italian Prysmian Group announced on Tuesday the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the development of an electric corridor system to transfer green electricity from Egypt to Italy.
The MoU signing ceremony came on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), taking place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
The project is currently moving to a more comprehensive stage of detailed feasibility study after the success of the initial studies and the signing of a MoU regarding it with all concerned parties.
The electric corridor is initially scheduled to have a capacity of about three gigawatts, representing about five percent of peak electricity demand in Italy, with the possibility of future expansion.
The project was developed in cooperation with the K&K Group and CESI, two prominent firms in the fields of energy and environmental engineering, as a crucial step in supporting Europe’s goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
