Egypt, Jordan deals to improve natural gas infrastructure

Egypt and Jordan signed two new agreements on Saturday that facilitate LNG storage and regasification and increase gas supply to Jordan’s industrial sector, according to official statements from the two countries.

The cooperation comes under government directives and within the plan of the Jordanian Electricity Company to reduce the operational costs for Jordan’s electrical system and enhance the security of energy supply in both countries.

According to the statement, the Jordanian side will receive LNG from Egypt and pump back some of the natural gas through transborder pipelines to the African country if needed.

It is worth mentioning that, the deal was signed by Tarek El-Molla, Egypt’s minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Saleh Kharabsheh, Jordan’s minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
