Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al Wazir, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Proton Saga car assembly plant by the Ezz Elarab Automotive Group.
The new assembly plant is expected to produce 40,000 cars annually, with the potential to increase production to 80,000 units in the future, as per a statement published by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The plant, with a 48 per cent local component manufacture shall create up to 300 jobs . It plans to export 10 per cent of its production in the first year.
Egypt’s automotive industry is striving to enhance its production capabilities and transition from assembly to manufacturing. This shift aims to attract increased domestic and foreign investment of up to 3 billion Egyptian pounds in investments.
The Ministry of Industry is committed to supporting the state’s transition to green economy, improving local product quality, increasing exports, and meeting global standards for Sustainable Development Goals 2030, Al Wazir added.
The event was attended by high-level officials from both Egypt and Malaysia, including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Hisham Ezz Elarab, Chairman of Ezz Elarab Automotive Group.
