An informed source in the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Egypt has no intention to hand over the headquarters of Syrian Embassy in Cairo to the Syrian National Coalition; indicating that the coalition has already a headquarters in Cairo. The notion of handing over the headquarters to the Syrian opposition has not been propounded before.
The source added that both of Egyptian and Syrian sides are conducting calls at the present time to arrange the consular relations in an attempt to protect the interests of Egyptian citizens in Syria and vice versa.
This came after Egypt’s Islamic President Mohamed Morsi severed ties with Syria, expressing demur against what he has described as genocide. Furthermore, Morsi called on the opposition to be united so that they can reconstruct Syria.
