Egypt plans to build new upscale neighborhood, Garden City in new capital
10 Egyptian construction companies plan to complete first phase of works on a new Garden City, an upscale neighbourhood in the new capital by the end of June 2020.
The original Garden City – located in the heart of Cairo to cater mainly for elite Egyptians and expatriates – is home to foreign embassies – such as the United States, British, and Italian embassies – grand private mansions, and upscale hotels with chic global restaurants.
As for the New Garden City, the neighbourhood will be developed in three phases on a space of nearly 1,000 feddans, an official source told Amwal Al Ghad.
The city will include a five-star hotel as well as 23,000 housing units and villas, beside other luxury homes as well as educational, sports, commercial, entertainment, and medical projects.
The city’s buildings will be according the old French design style similar to the architecture of several buildings in Downtown Cairo.
“The project’s first phase will include concrete works, while the second phase is set to encompass initial road works,” he said.
The companies – working on the first phase – include Orascom Construction, Hassan Allam, SIAC Holding Construction, Misr Engineering Development (MEDCOM), and El Rowad, he added.
“Al-Marasem International for Development, Binladin Group, Talaat Moustafa, and Concrete Plus for Engineering and Construction are also developing the project,” he said.
Located 45km (28 miles) east of Cairo, the anticipated new capital city is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the country’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure.
