Egypt reopens newly restored 16C- Sariyat Al-Jabal mosque

Egypt reopens Suleyman Pasha historic mosque known as Sariyat Al-Jabal on Saturday after a five-year restoration project.

After an announcement last week, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Eissa has inaugurated the Ottoman mosque, built by the 16th Century governor Suleyman Pasha al-Khadim (Sariyat Al-Jabal), that lies within the magnificent Salah-al-Din Citadel.

The masterpiece of Ottoman architecture, with 22 green-tiled domes and minbar inlaid with renowned Iznik tiles, is Cairo’s earliest Ottoman mosque, built in 1528 A.D.
