France plans to sell fuel below cost to combat inflation

The French government intends to temporarily waive a ban on merchants selling fuel below cost, in an effort to reduce home inflationary pressures, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said on Monday.

The government may need to take action to address the issue of large profit margins in the petroleum refining industry, according to Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire on Thursday.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Finance has already relied on Total Energies to reduce the cost of gas and diesel earlier this month.
