Egypt’s food exports reached 170,000 tons in the week through November 1st, a 9.6 per cent rise from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday. This figure reflects a wide variety of over 605 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 52 different varieties, with a total volume of around 36,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged on the top at 12,000 tons followed by beans with a total of 8,000 tons, and onions at 5,000 tons.
Last week, pomegranates were the most exported fruit with 11,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 6,000 tons, and strawberries at 5,000 tons. Around 30,000 tons of 40 fruit varieties were exported, the report showed.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of October 26th to November 1st, shipments reached 173 countries. Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Yemen emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
