Egypt, Sierra Leone in investment talks ahead of business forum

The CEO of Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Hossam Heiba on Wednesday met with Michaella Vandetta Bio, envoy of Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio, to enhance investment cooperation and discuss preparations for the Egypt-Sierra Leone Business Forum.

Egypt is set to host the Egypt-Sierra Leone Business Forum during President Julius Maada Bio’s visit later this month, according to the Egyptian Cabinet.

Both sides discussed key sectors of mutual interest, including public transport manufacturing, food industries, pest and epidemic control in agriculture, vaccine and pharmaceutical production, renewable energy, mining, technical education, and infrastructure development, particularly roads, telecom towers, and grain storage silos.

Heiba reaffirmed GAFI’s commitment to supporting Egyptian companies in expanding into African markets, highlighting Sierra Leone’s potential as a key investment partner in West Africa, following Kenya and Tanzania’s role as major hubs for Egyptian investments in the east of the continent.

Bio noted the strong demand for Egyptian products in Sierra Leone and emphasised her country’s interest in localising Egyptian goods.

She also highlighted the significant Egyptian investments in Sierra Leone’s infrastructure sector and the untapped opportunities for further collaboration across multiple industries.
