Egypt to launch international tender for solar power generation in new capital
Egypt’s Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) is preparing to launch an international tender to structure photovoltaic solar cells on the rooftops of some of its residential buildings in the country’s new capital (NAC).
The project will be for the second phase to generate electricity with an estimated capacity of 130 megawatts, according to NAC’s official statement on Monday.
The project will be among the largest rooftop photovoltaic projects globally, as it plans to start implementing the project in 2022 and deliver it in 2023, NAC added.
ACUD will conduct the tender under the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) format.
The project comes in light of country’s efforts to transition towards a green economy and to serve as a high-impact marketing tool for the administrative capital.
Moreover, the New Administrative Capital will be the first smart and sustainable city in Egypt to depend on solar energy.
