Egypt plans to plant 3.5 million feddans of wheat in the coming season, up from around 3.16 million feddans last season, an Agriculture Ministry official told Reuters on Monday.
The increased area will be allocated in the desert due to climate change and heavy rainfall, said Abbas al-Shennawi, head of the ministry’s services and follow-up sector.
Egypt, the world’s largest wheat importer, harvested 8.5 million tonnes of domestic wheat last season.
