Egypt’s agriculture minister Alaa Farouk met on Monday with a Tunisian business delegation led by Samir Majoul, president of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts (UTICA), to explore expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture.
Talks focused on potential investments in desert land reclamation, joint ventures in olives, dates and sugar beet production, and related processing industries, the agriculture ministry said in a statement.
Farouk highlighted reforms aimed at improving Egypt’s investment climate and stressed the country’s commitment to attracting private capital into agriculture. The Tunisian delegation voiced interest in leveraging Egypt’s infrastructure and expertise.
The two sides agreed on field visits over the next two days to assess Egypt’s sugar beet production and identify land suitable for olive cultivation, with a view to moving ahead with joint projects.
