Egypt‘s agricultural exports surged to record levels, as per the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation report on Thursday.
Minister of Agriculture, Sayed El Quseir, revealed that the nation’s agricultural exports have surpassed an impressive 4.5 million tons since the beginning of the year. This significant figure represents an increase of 400 thousand tons compared to the same period last year. The total value of these exports amounts to approximately 2.6 billion dollars, marking a substantial rise of half a billion dollars from the previous year.
The surge in agricultural exports has been attributed to the implementation of massive agricultural projects initiated by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
These projects have not only bolstered Egypt’s agricultural sector but have also played a crucial role in ensuring food security for its citizens. Additionally, the surplus in exports has provided a substantial boost to the national economy, contributing much-needed foreign currency.
Saad Moussa, the supervisor of agricultural quarantine, highlighted the key commodities driving Egypt’s agricultural exports; Citrus fruits take the lead, with total exports reaching an astounding 1,978,112 tons. Following closely behind are fresh potatoes, with exports totaling 862,226 tons. Onions also make a significant contribution, with exports amounting to 96,286 tons. Other notable exports include beans (fresh + dry) at 82,333 tons, and sweet potatoes at 63,337 tons. Grapes, tomatoes, strawberries, garlic, guavas, and pomegranates complete the list of top agricultural exports.
