Egypt’s agricultural exports surge to $2.9b in H1 ’24

Egypt’s agricultural exports in the first half of 2024 saw substantial growth, reaching $2.9 billion from nearly 5 million tons, a $600 million increase compared to the previous year.

The latest report on Egyptian agricultural exports highlights a total export volume of 4.9 million tons, up by 300,000 tons from the year before.

Moreover, Minister Alaa Farouk underscored the strategic importance of agricultural exports in Egypt’s economy, supporting foreign currency reserves and aligning with presidential directives aimed at achieving $100 billion in exports by 2030.

Saad Musa, head of Foreign Agricultural Relations at the ministry, further emphasised the critical role of the agricultural quarantine system in ensuring the smooth export of commodities worldwide, emphasising the ongoing efforts in digital transformation, market expansion, and staff training.

Despite global challenges, Egypt exported agricultural products to over 160 countries, including citrus fruits leading with over 2 million tons, followed by potatoes, onions, green and dry beans, grapes, and other commodities.
