Egypt’s Ahly defender Saad Samir out for 3 months due to knee injury
Egypt’s Ahly defender Saad Samir is facing three months on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury, the Cairo giants said on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old sustained the injury in his side’s embarrassing 5-0 loss to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the first-leg of the Champions league quarters on Saturday.
“Samir suffered a partial rupture in the cruciate ligament of his left knee and he will be out action for around three months,” football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told the club’s official website.
Ahly will have a mountain to climb on Saturday when they face Sundowns in the second leg at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab stadium if they are to continue their bid towards their first continental triumph since 2013.
They reached the final in the past two editions but lost to Wydad of Casablanca and Esperance de Tunis in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
