Egypt’s CIB first bank in MENA, Africa to receive Gender Equity Seal

Egypt’s Commercial International Bank (CIB) has become the first bank in the Middle East and Africa to receive Gender Equity Seal (EGES) certification from the National Council for Women (NCW) and the World Bank.

In efforts to promote, incentivise, and institutionalise gender equity in the Egyptian private sector, the World Bank partnered with the NCW with the support of the UK embassy in Egypt to revive the EGES certification.

This model promotes gender equity in the Egyptian private sector by building a series of good practices in the areas of recruitment; career development; family-work balance; and sexual harassment policies.

It is guided by the World Bank’s Gender Equity Model (GEM), which identified the areas of focus and mapped out the needed actions to achieve the model’s objectives in each area.
