Dakahlia governor Hossam El-Din Imam announced Friday that his governorate had signed a contract with AOL to install and operate five solar photovoltaic power plants there.
Arab Organization for Industrialization is one of the largest industrial organizations in Egypt and in the Middle East supporting community development plans in the fields of infrastructure, environmental protection and transportation projects among others.
The contract aims to upgrade power system and apply new policy to rationalise electricity consumption in governmental authorities and public roads and provide clean energy.
Imam added that the contract included the construction of a solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of one megawatt in Gamasa at total cost of 12 million Egyptian pounds (US$1.5 million) to be the first plant executed by an Egyptian firm with local production component reaching more than 90%.
Solar panels produced by AOI with European standards and quality would be used in Gamasa plant, the governor further added.
Moreover, the governor mentioned that the four remaining solar power plants would locate in Mansoura with different capacities of 21, 24, 30, and 36 kilowatts, respectively, at total cost of 1.8 million pounds.
