Egypt’s Deputy Health Min. reviews key health files in Sohag

Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Health Abla Al-Alfi has met with Sohag Governor Abdel Fattah Siraj to discuss key health and population issues in the governorate, the Cabinet announced.

Al-Alfi emphasised that improving healthcare services and raising public awareness remain top priorities, with special focus on maternal and child health in line with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s guidance.

She highlighted the government’s plan to improve healthcare services, raise population awareness, and enforce the medical liability law to protect both doctors and patients, the report added.

She also addressed reducing Caesarean section rates, citing their high cost to the national budget—estimated at EGP 120 billion annually in 2018—and associated health risks such as stunting and autism.

Al-Alfi further called for expanded health awareness programmes, particularly on female education, combating early marriage, and protecting children from practices that could harm their health or education.
