Egypt’s DRC opens new horizons for cooperation with China

Egypt’s Desert Research Centre (DRC) hosted a Chinese delegation on Monday to explore broader cooperation in environmental and development research, the agriculture ministry said in a statement.

The delegation included representatives from the Sino-Africa Joint Research Centre (SAJOREC), Wuhan Botanical Garden and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Talks focused on researcher exchanges, academic partnerships and joint training programmes.

DRC head Hossam Shawky said the partnership aims to expand collaborative research, create opportunities for postgraduate students, and strengthen training to boost research capacity.

Both sides said the cooperation reflects their shared focus on applied research and commitment to tackling environmental and development challenges, particularly in sustainable resource management and agriculture in fragile environments.
