Egypt’s El-Wazir invites US firms to invest in ports, shipping

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir invited US companies to expand investment in the country’s ports and shipping sector during a tour of Alexandria Port on Sunday.

El-Wazir, speaking alongside US Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg at a press conference held at the Tahya Misr Multi-Purpose Terminal, said Cairo is seeking American participation in managing and operating port terminals, developing Egypt’s commercial shipping fleet, and investing in logistics hubs and dry ports.

The minister highlighted the Tahya Misr terminal as one of the most advanced in the Middle East, operated by TMT, a joint venture between Egypt’s EGMPT and France’s CMA. The facility is part of the Grand Alexandria Port project, which brings together Alexandria, Dekheila, and El-Maks ports.

“Egypt is open to cooperation with global firms, including American companies, particularly as we continue comprehensive upgrades across our ports,” El-Wazir said.

He also pointed to additional opportunities for US investors in the high-speed electric rail network linking seaports, dry ports, and industrial zones, as well as in establishing large-scale industrial complexes in Egypt.

The event was attended by senior officials from the ministry of transport, the Alexandria Port Authority, and executives from major American firms with an interest in maritime transport.
