Egypt’s food exports reached 142,000 tons in the week through November 8th, a 16.4 per cent decline from the previous week, as per a report published by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA). This figure reflects a wide variety of over 610 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 51 different varieties, with a total volume of around 33,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged on the top at 10,000 tons followed by beans with a total of 6,000 tons, and onions at 5,000 tons.
Last week, pomegranates were the most exported fruit with 10,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 6,000 tons, and strawberries at 4,000 tons. Around 27,000 tons of 38 fruit varieties were exported, the report showed.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of November 2-8, shipments reached 167 countries. Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Lybia and Russia emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
