Egypt’s last week’s food exports surge

Egypt’s food exports reached 173,000 tons in the week through November 29th, a 6.7 per cent rise from the previous week, as per a report published by the Cabinet. This figure reflects a wide variety of over 640 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.

Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 70 varieties, with a total volume of around 43,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged on the top with 11,000 tons followed by beans with a total of 8,000 tons, and onions with 7,500 tons.

Last week, citrus fruits were the most exported with 18,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 5,000 tons, and dates at 4,500 tons. Around 37,000 tons of 38 fruit varieties were exported, the report showed.

Egypt’s food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of November 23-29, shipments reached 148 countries. Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Türkiye emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
