Egypt’s food exports surged to a whooping 210,000 tons in the week through August 10-16, marking a 35 per cent increase from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday.
This impressive figure reflects a wide variety of over 605 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 72 different varieties, with a total volume of around 45,000 tons. Beans were the star performer at 15,000 tons, while sweet potatoes and frozen vegetables recorded 12,000 tons and 11,000 tons, respectively. A total of 72 vegetable varieties were exported during the week.
Meanwhile, the country’s fruits export portfolio boasted 63 different varieties, with a total volume of around 35,000 tons. Mangoes led the list with 12,000 tons. Strawberries and pomegranates followed with 8,000 tons and 6,000 tons, respectively.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of August 10-16, shipments reached 160 countries. Thailand, Sudan, and Madagascar, emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
